This year as our parting koha for Pt England School we have designed and painted our own kowhaiwhai. These will be mounted permanently as our koha as Year 8 of 2018. I've called my artwork 'Ko Au' - 'Me'. It has symbols that represent my Family, Myself and Also GOD.
The steps I took to produce this are :
1. Practising our Kowhaiwhai
2. Sketching/Drawing Korus
3. Darkening on Wood
4. Painting
5. Outlining product with Black Marker
6. Varnish product
When we were painting our boards we had to be extra careful. Trying not to smudge the paint was hard enough. It has been a fun journey Sketching/Drawing our product to actually painting it. I hope that these paintings will become memories to Pt England School forever.

The Astria Game
For Today's activity we got to play a game called Astria. The focus was based on critical thinking.

A student in another school has recently blogged that:
“Students don’t learn much playing this game called Astria –
Countdown to Impact: Their time could be better spent doing other
things”.

Today's visitor was Naomi. She goes the University of Auckland.
She came to show us a game called Astria. The game was kind of
hard because we had choices, and we had to choose wisely,
we also worked with a buddy. In the game we had to
figure out how to save the world/planet. We also had
to find 6 documents and explore the Spaceship

The Tree
Underneath the huge tree
Feeling happy and feeling free
As I feel the breeze
I start to freeze
I move closer to the tree
As it’s harder to believe
I’m getting warmer and warmer
I start to dream
As I feel like an explorer

but you always seem to have a good friend that will make you

We got the opportunity to mark our own work based on Statements, Explanations and also Examples. As you can see I got to highlight my writing test. The reason behind that is because we wanted to see what it would be like to mark our own work based on our opinions.

24-hour Time
WALT: Agree on a solution that each can we can explain
For this weeks activity we have been focusing on 12 hour & 24 hour time. There were times where it was difficult to solve some questions but we managed to get through it and finish it. Overall thoughts were that it was good to know how 24 hour time works which most of us already knew about, it was also good to experience.

Flight History
Last term our Extension decided to do a Paideia Seminar. You must be wondering what this might be, well basically we had to have a debate over our research. One question was, What might happen in the Future? It was similar to having a political argument, not that I have been in one. Furthermore this presentation is what our research was about. Do you have any clue on who the Wright Brothers are?

Reflection - Move Ya Body
Right now my group and I are starting to practice our item for Team 5. We are going to be performing next week, I am not really sure what day we are performing on but my group and I are doing a Bollywood dance. In my group I have Samoa & Myztique. When we first learnt the dance it was quite difficult knowing that we are not from this country. One thing we struggled on was understanding what the song was about but luckily in our group Samoa knew this song off by heart. When we were practising we learnt some dance moves that were way beyond difficult but we still wanted to try it out. It was surprising to know tat we learnt the dance in one day!

My Poem
Feeling the cold breeze
As it feels like 100 degrees
Playing with my friends
As we walk to class
Looking around I see the bright green grass
Walking to the hall
As we stand up nice and tall
Singing the national anthem
As I see kids throwing a tantrum
We continue singing
When I hear the bell ringing

STRIKE
More time to teach:
Our classes in NZ are struggling to cope with their teachers,
doing a lot of jobs for the school rather than teaching their students.
From my perspective I think that teachers should spend more time to
teach their students than to write reports all day about our attitude and the
way we learn. The main focus is to actually have a full session to teach us.

Resourcing for Additional needs:
Classes in NZ are struggling to handle their rare student’s.
By rare I mean that one teacher in each class have a group
of students that have a hard time focusing on their learning,
while other student’s find it way easier. I think that schools
need more teacher’s to help our students catch up with the
rest of the class.
Better Pay:
From my perspective I think that the money that teachers are
getting paid right now is not enough, because some teachers
have been teaching for more than ten years and their still
getting paid the same amount of money as new teachers.
Teachers work everyday just to pay the bills and to teach
our students, but there’s other jobs like being a lawyer, you
only work for a few days but you still get paid more than teachers.
Conclusion:
So there you have it! I hope that these paragraphs have helped you.
I hope that people start making changes for the people
that work as teachers.

Statictics
For this weeks activity we have been Introduced to Statistics. One thing I knew about Statistics is that there were a bunch of different graphs. Isn't that cool! Knowing that there are a lot of different graphs you can put lot of Data into more than one graph. Going through this presentation was a good way to look at how Data can be used or how it is put into graphs.

With this poster I think it means a lot of things to other's but to me this poster just give's me one topic and that's to not give up. This activity encouraged me by reading the book and answering the questions.

How to have a fun holiday!
Have you ever thought about how you can turn your holiday into something amazing. Well if you’re interested continue reading this for more ideas.
When it’s time for the holiday’s my Mum & Dad already have a list of chores that we have to do. So waking up in the morning is hard because once my siblings wake up that’s when they run to the lounge and play on the PS4, but when I wake up it’s a different story. When I wake up that’s my Que to clean up the lounge also my room and different areas of the house. While i’m cleaning I feel desperate just to play at least once because I hate cleaning up then looking in the corner and there you see my brother’s playing on the Game Console. I feel like it’s better to do the chores first then to jump straight on to the game console.
Now that the chores are out of the way we can move to different activities you can play. One thing that me and my siblings love doing is playing touch in our backyard or we like going out to the beach with our family and we like playing family activities. There are plenty of other things you can do but these things are my personal favourite things. The reason behind that is because it creates time for you and your family and it’s a special thing cause that’s you and your family bonding.
As I said before me and my siblings love to play outdoors in our backyard, but before playing you need to make sure you don’t ruin your parent’s plants or even ruin their lawn mowing. One thing I learnt from destroying my parent’s gardening is that I had to face some consequences. One thing I learnt from experiencing those consequences is that you should never mess up your Dad’s lawn mowing and your Mum’s Gardening.
As you know once my siblings wake they run straight away to the lounge and start playing on the Game Console. One thing I found out about my siblings is that they sometimes are bossy with the Game Console. So when it’s my turn they take their time as always complaining about why I didn’t turn that way and they also complain about why I didn’t aim for the payer behind me. So what i’m trying to say is that you should always share the game with your family members or whoever it is you’re playing with.
Well there you go! 4 ideas of what you can in the holidays.
Make sure to do the chores before playing on the game console. That way you will have more time to play. Also make sure to have fun playing outdoors and to include your neighbours as well, and definitely make sure to share the game console with everyone. Hope you have a fun holiday!!

Welcome Back
Dear Mrs Tele’a,
My name is Ana Leisi and I am a Year 8 student at Pt England School. My ethnicity is tongan and I am the middle child of three in my family. In my spare time I like to spend time with Friends and Family.
My favourite sports are Rugby, Tag, Touch and also Softball.
This year will be my last year attending Pt England School. My favourite subjects are Reading, Writing and Maths. Right now I am currently looking at going to Tamaki College. I don’t know what other college fits me best. During my work time I don’t like getting distracted and I also don’t like it when I don’t finish my work.
Other then that I hope that as the year goes on you enjoy your time being a teacher in Room 3 and one of our leaders in Team 5. I hope that your class and your students treat you good and I hope you have a fun time in Room 3 for the next two terms.
WELCOME BACK!!!!

Holes - The last chapter
WALT: Summarising - I make effective notes and condense ideas to summarise |
For this weeks activity we got to do the last chapter of Holes. At the end it was interesting to find out who left Camp Green Lake and who stayed. It was also interesting to find out what the warden and her assistants were actually trying to find. My overall thoughts on the book were that they should make a Part 2 and that the movie and the book was fun to read/watch. I suggest that others should read this book to experience all the ups and downs in the book.

Recount On Camp
On the 23rd of May we had our Year 8 Leadership Camp.
For our camp we went down to Kauaeranga. It took us a long time to get there.
Most of our team were sleeping and some of us were just looking at how
beautiful the place was. We got to see a lot of animals and we saw a lot of
farms. As soon as we got there we were shocked on how small it was, some
of us were expecting it to be bigger but it was smaller than we thought.
We hopped out of the bus then we had to go inside the kitchen.
We all had our own table that had our team names on it I thought it was quite
cool and creative. We had to sing one waiata. Then they had the the owners
of the camp come and also the staff. They all introduced themselves. Most of
them were quite humorous when they were introducing themselves. We then
had to have morning tea but it was from our own lunch.
We then got the time to go and check out our cabins. I was so excited to see it.
All of us were shocked to see how much room we had but anyways we
managed to make space for our bags.
Leaving Camp was going to be hard because I had a lot of fun memories
with my friends and also playing the activities. My overall thoughts on camp
is that it made me feel like a leader and that it made me step out of my
comfort zone.
