The Astria Game

For Today's activity we got to play a game called Astria. The focus was based on critical thinking.

Today's visitor was Naomi. She goes the University of Auckland.
She came to show us a game called Astria. The game was kind of
hard because we had choices, and we had to choose wisely,
we also worked with a buddy. In the game we had to
figure out how to save the world/planet. We also had
to find 6 documents and explore the Spaceship

Flight History

Last term our Extension decided to do a Paideia Seminar. You must be wondering what this might be,  well basically we had to have a debate over our research. One question was, What might happen in the Future?  It was similar to having a political argument, not that I have been in one. Furthermore this presentation is what our research was about. Do you have any clue on who the Wright Brothers are?

Digital Nations 2030 Trip

 On Monday 19th of Feb our Year 7&8 Extension got to go to a hotel called Cordis. We had the privilege to go and find out more about coding and robotics and also technology. I was so excited to go. When we first got there we got to see Zoe. Zoe was one of our helpers for coding she taught us a lot of things about it.When we got to the room and it was filed with computers and robots. We got to go to a table and play with our tech!

The first thing I played with was a robot. We had a usb connected to the robot and the laptop. So what ever we coded we had to upload to the robot and when we were finish we had to press play. Our robots started doing our commands we set it to do. My second thing I did was coding. So it was normal coding like what we always do in extension. We got to make different sounds using fruit and chocolate. Isn't that crazy? The kit was called Makey - Makey. The last thing we went to was Code avengers. What we had to do was to try and get through 5 levels to get to the spinning wheel. On the spinning wheel was a Chocolate bar, A sticker and also a T-Shirt. I really wanted the T-shirt.

My overall experience was amazing. I learnt a lot of new things that I did't know about. The things I picked up was that you can give your computer commands. It's like telling someone/somebody to do something and they will do it. I hope that in the future we could be a coding genius. It was really fun to go to the event. Near the end of the event I won the T-shirt and I was so happy.

Reflection - Swift Playgrounds

Last week our year 7&8 Extension started coding on a new app called Swift Playgrounds. What I experienced using the app was that through times it was difficult but we figured out how to get all the gems and toggle the switches. We learnt about commands and sequences. We even got to make our own video. In the video we had to record a buddy and give them a bunch of commands to reach our hidden object. Overall it was a great chance to get closer to learning about coding.

Extension Reflection

Last term for extension we had 3 choices to pick from and those choices were either to make a game that disabled people can play and also make a game show and to try and make a song but we had to make them with Makey - Makey. My group picked the game show because we wanted to entertain people with different questions and we wanted to see if they knew the answer.

In my group there was Sheena , Atareita , Danielle , Alisha. I loved the group that I was in we were focused on what we had to do and we worked together on the difficulties we had. We made our game show with the help of Scratch and we also made our buzzers with playdough.

Next we had to present our game show in front of the class. Then we grabbed two volunteers which was Talita and Simon. The seem to like our game. There where a bunch of different questions that were easy and also hard but they got through the hard and easy questions.

In our group we had different jobs to do. I had to make the buzzers and sounds and I also had to test them out when they were done. Next there was Danielle she also had to make the buzzers and she did some coding. Sheena was finding out where all the wires go to make the buzzers work. Alisha was helping Sheena with the wires. Atareita did the coding the scores and also the backdrops and also the buzzers.

GEGNZ Student Summit at Ormiston Junior College

Today the Year 7 & 8 Extension class luckily got to go to the GEGNZ Student Summit. We got to show other schools how we create the news on PENN. We got to present our speech that got given to us and also we had to memorise it. There were so many different schools there. The first thing we did was we had to go into to their auditorium and they welcomed all schools that were there.

After the big welcoming we got to go and have a break and have morning tea. After having morning tea we had to prepare for presenting, we had to walk up the stairs and get to the room that we were presenting in. I was quite nervous because I didn't know how many people were going to be there. When it was presenting time we had a small audience that turned into a big audience.

It was really fun and some of our students got prizes and I was also one of them.

Space Technology

In extension I read an article about space technology and how it's helped us. I learnt that our satellite has helped us with a lot of things in so many different ways. it helps people travel and also go to different places. Satellites help us know whats going on around the world. So here is what I picked up when i read the article. Hope you enjoy reading.

Well I think that space technology has helped us with a lot of things such as TV’s, Telephones, Computers and many more. It even helps us with telephone calls and also it helps people find out what weather will be today and tomorrow. Some  satellites can help with Cars and also airplanes. This is why satellites are so important to us.  Space technology has helped us understand how Earth works and how we can keep it healthy.  

You probably wouldn’t know this but satellites have helped us understand what’s happening around our planet and it also shows and tells us how we can take care and protect our planet.                 Here is the link to the article

Dear Prime Minister, John Key

Malo e lelei my name is Ana. I am 10 years of age and also a year 6 student. I come from a beautiful island called Tonga but I live in New Zealand. I have noticed that there has been a lot of people dumping their rubbish on the road and the streets. It has polluted our environment. When rubbish ends up in the water it has killed fish in the lakes, rivers, and oceans. It also makes our water dirty and bad for people to drink.

The reason I wrote this letter is because I wanted to tell you that all around in New Zealand people have been littering and it is bad for our community and I wanted you to create a charity towards the pollution, people have also have been tossing food around and also there has been a lot of people chucking their rubbish in the city.

I want you to stop people from tossing plastic and also rubbish around because many of our birds have died because they think that plastic is food so they just dive for the food and it get’s stuck in there throat and they get washed up by shore. So I want you to make a charity or a Commercial for tossing food.

                  Lina’s heart was racing as she saw a few soldiers following her so she jumps into the river and finds out that the water is super cold. It was 1733 since the tribe laid off to their site. It was linda's turn to fight she really hated mina from the other tribe. Sometimes when each tribe walk past each other Lina and mina would stare at each other. Lina would give mina a ferocious look making you want to go and stay in your room forever. When lina gives her that look she tells her dad the head of their tribe that lina keeps giving her that ferocious look. Later on that day her dad went and visited the other tribe which is called the Mighty Tribe. He went to their camping site and spoke to lina’s father and said that lina always scares her with her ferocious face.

Lina’s dad told mina’s dad that lina would do nothing like that. So lina’s dad had a talk with her. Lina got so angry and went for a little walk. When lina’s angry she would always have a little walk to the beach to calm her head. She would look at the calm blue water and she then look at the blue skies. So she went back to her village palm trees could be seen from the village and people loved that point of view. Lina really loved her village and everyone in it. She had long black hair, brown eyes and always wore her feather cloak. She was the chief’s daughter.

One day as Lina walked down to the beach she was stopped by Mina. “What do you want?” “Nothing!” replied Mina with an angry tone to her voice. “Just because you are the chief’s daughter, it doesn’t mean we have to be kind to you! Said mina. Mina said that in her tribe people always say that they do not want to be kind to her they want to be bad to her. There chief overheard what they were saying but their chief said that they can not be mean. But they didn’t listen to there chief.

Lina’s heart raced as she saw warriors from another tribe approach her. Mina planned to let the other tribe kidnap Lina! Lina ran as fast as she could trying to defend herself but they caught her. So they put a bag over her head and she couldn’t breath so she fainted. A few minutes later she then woke up and she tried to look around but it was Pitch black. She could hardly see anything. They finally took the bag of her head. She had time to breath, so mina and a few of her tribe friends were asking her why her that is putting her in charge? Lina said “No your dad did not put me in charge! Said lina. Mina then got super angry. She walked by herself to her village. She reached her destination so she went to her dad and yelled at him and she didn’t talk to him for almost a week.

When lina was in the cell she heard someone walking in so she quickly puts herself back to normal. The person who came in was mina. She came in to cut the ropes on lina’s hand. Mina was so sad and she apologized to lina and mina told lina that it was a big mistake. Lina was so happy to be released so she ran home jumping up and down. So she stood outside of the village and her dad ran up to her and hugged her. Lina’s dad said that he really missed her.

My Setting Description

Today at Extension we had to write a sentence or a paragraph about the
City and Africa and also a Forest.

My Character Description

For extension  we had to describe characters and we had to write a sentence about it.
